In the early 1900s, Sicilian immigrant Anthony Sanna developed and patented a number of dried milk and dairy products in the United States. His sons later leveraged these patents and products to which they added sugar and cocoa. Swiss Miss was one of the first dry cocoa mixes to be developed. The product was first served to passengers onboard airplanes and was eventually rolled out to grocery stores. Other than the product name and packaging, the product has no connection to Switzerland. Today the brand is managed by the Con Agra food company. (Primary Source: www.swissmiss.com)
